“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” -Fred Rogers

Hello! My name is Mia Power and I am trying to examine how the world communicates. This blog is part of an assignment for one of my strategic communications classes at The Ohio State University. But class credit it not the only reason for this journey. There 196 countries in the world and almost 7 billion people. We are all constantly communicating at a speed that has never been seen before. We can send messages on a journey that takes seconds when it previously took years. And this is creating problems and solutions that we never anticipated.

So what exactly drives us to communicate? That’s what I want to find out. I believe that to understand how to world communicates I have to also understand how I communicate. That it what I will try to do here; dissect various forms of communication that I come into contact with.

Communication is everywhere. Blogs, Facebook, text messages, conversations, ads, TV, radio and many other mediums bring us messages every day. But the transition to the digital age has profoundly changed how we send those messages and we are not always equipped to deal with those consequences. The only way to understand these problems is to study them.
